Welcome to /a/, the official board for Anime and Manga discussion on Masterchan. Anything related is a go~ Your opinions, reviews, suggestions, favourites and questions! From anime/manga veterans who enjoy critical analysis to those who would like to experiment with this (clearly superior) artistic medium, let's hear your input! :D
Please remember the Golden Rule of Masterchan! 1) Golden Rule: When discussing anything, use arguments to explain your position. Saying an opinion is right/wrong or that something is good/bad without justification is frowned upon. This rule exists to inspire a culture where users expect arguments from posters, to prevent viral marketeers/shills and also to prevent people from making accusations of them.
In response to the favorite anime thread, seeing as this board isn't exclusively for anime, post your favorite manga (even if they're not completed yet) if you read them OR seeing as there are a shitload of 'em, list the ones you're watching closely for updates on: For most of them I'm sticking to their original names because it's easier to find them that way. >Fantasy Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatte Iru Darou ka, Mushoku Tensei - Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu, Re:Monster, Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken, Hachinan tte, Sore wa Nai Deshou!, Spirit Migration, Toaru Ossan no VRMMO Katsudouki, Sword Art Online - Project Alicization, The New Gate,

Anyone keeping up with the new anime for this spring? I see the "Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon?" manga has been turned into an anime but I have not bothered watching it, I've torrented a few but only watched a couple of series so far. The screencap is from "Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records" which might be interesting but it's got its cliches... and then one that might be more original that I'm going to keep an eye on is "Shuumatsu Nani Shitemasuka Isogashii Desuka Sukutte Moratte Ii Desuka".

I want to talk about a serious topic here. And I welcome every opinion you may have. It is the Whitewashing of anime by the Western world. Japan has done their fair share of whitewashing their own anime work with the abundance of Western phenotype features: white faces, brown-blond hair, blue-green eyes, large sunken eyes...etc. But when the character is Japanese, is it right to choose a white person to play that character in live-action versions? I'm sure you know where I'm going with this - yes, its Scarlett Johansson as the lead in 'Ghost in the Shell' to play Motoko Kusanagi. By casting a white American actors/actress in lieu of the original ethnic actors/actresses, films whitewashes a character who is clearly meant to be non-white. This not only disrespects the original source but perpetuates Hollywood's racist habit of ignoring people of colour in order to promote white movie stars. Lets not forget last summer’s “Edge of Tomorrow,” which starred Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, which is based on the Japanese novel “All You Need Is Kill” by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. For the film, the novel’s protagonist was changed from an Asian soldier named Keiji Kiriya to a white one named William Cage, played by Cruise. Or 2010' M. Night Shyamalan’s controversial “The Last Airbender." The anime-inspired series was known for its depiction of Asian and Inuit culture and characters, and the film sparked protest for casting white actors to play the Asian and indigenous protagonists. Similarly, other live-action anime adaptations such as “Dragonball Evolution”(2009) and “Speed Racer”(2008) feature non-Asian lead characters. Should Dreamworks Studio have opted for an Asian to play Kusanagi, Motoko?
no he didnt
I'm not bothered, unless it speak force japanese.
Autumn season 2015 http://myanimelist.net/anime/season/2015/fall I'm looking forward to a lot of these ^~^ What about you? Most will start in October, or from the last week of September What is your Anime of the Season (AOTS) or Anime of the Year (AOTY)? I predict the Project Itoh films will be phenomenal.
>Everything Becomes F - The Perfect Insider The most promising murder mystery anime of the upcoming season. Starting next Friday 10/9/2015. Synopsis: The story of the original novel revolves around Souhei Saikawa, a member of the Saikawa Research Lab. On a vacation held for the lab, he meets Moe Nishinosono, the daughter of his mentor, who joins the group on their vacation despite not being a part of the lab. After meeting each other, the two end up finding a corpse. The two work together to solve the mysteries of what becomes a serial murder case. (Source: ANN)
For me, this fall/ autumn is basically a season of wildcards. Aside from The Perfect Insider, Monogatari and One Punch Man, most are shows I don’t anything about.

>>1201 That's probably because nowadays everyone and their weeaboo sister has seen it. I liked it because it was like the first truly gory anime I'd seen at the time (2005ish?) and I found it rather entertaining. I haven't really seen that many gory anime since that I enjoyed (like Hellsing--I couldn't give two shits about that one) but the most violent manga I've read has been Magical Girl Apocalypse which puts EL to shame. There was an Internet TV station I used to watch off of Shoutcase (via Winamp) that streamed fan-subbed anime 24/7 with the episodes back-to-back and no ads and the owner would run an anime for maybe 2-3 months straight then switch over to something else. I got to watch like 7 or 8 entire series on it and never missed an episode because they re-ran series so often. I miss those days. There was also a streaming site called Studio 65 (I believe) that had a shit ton of uploaded anime on it before it got shut down for copyright infringement. Both of these were either before YT or around its conception.
>>1263 >*Shoutcast, not Shoutcase I don't know how many fan-subbing groups were big before Crunchyroll killed many of them but under the sci-fi genre I listed Dennou-Coil but I was really tempted to put down either .//Sign or Roots because when the Dattebayo fan-subbing group was still around they released all of .//Roots and I really enjoyed that series from watching .//Sign & .//Legend of the Twilight years before. I would have bought the games but they're really fucking expensive IRL and online. I also relied on DB for Shippuden, Bleach and TTGL (and the occasional goofy/mind-bogglingly clever Rune Golberg Machines from the Pythagora Switch show on off-days).

>>855 Thank you, good sir
It's from the OVA series Hellsing Ultimate. 10 episodes all about 45 mins or an hour each. Worth the watch.

Here's a rarity. A new thread on /a/. I have both seasons on a flash drive and I'm hoping they come out with another season because of its quirkiness. Personally I found it a little slow in the very beginning but it does pick up eventually.
This is a reminder that if you thought the Attack on Titan anime was good. You're a fucking fuckhead. Attack on Titan was fucking awful.
>Attack on Titan was fucking awful >1) Golden Rule: When discussing anything, use arguments to explain your position. Saying an opinion is right/wrong or that something is good/bad without justification is frowned upon. This rule exists to inspire a culture where users expect arguments from posters, to prevent viral marketeers/shills and also to prevent people from making accusations of them.
>>809 Oh, I didn't think it would matter because nobody posts here anyways. I don't think the story is bad, I picked up the manga because I wanted to know how it ended and its going in a direction that I could never have dreamed. But the problem with the anime was exposition. An average episode can be summed up like this. >An interesting plot point happens that puts people in danger. >Exposition ensues >jump to showing characters in danger because this exposition is not resolved >continue exposition >jump to showing characters in danger because this exposition is not resolved >continue exposition >jump to showing characters in danger because this exposition is not resolved >continue exposition >jump to showing characters in danger because this exposition is not resolved >finish exposition >event is resolved >cliffhanger The show is so bogged down in exposition that it moves at a snails pace. By the time they get around to the big reveals and the plot, you're just bored to tears because nothing has happened. my post was too long and I have to rewrite everything again, so continued in part 2
>>810 SPOILERS AHEAD There's a running theme throughout the anime. That if you don't fight, you can't win. This is clearly expressed multiple times throughout the anime and the manga. and by the time we get to hearing Mikasa's backstory during the defense of trost, we've already heard it before. But they then spend an entire episode giving a through backstory of why Mikasa is as she is and it all boils down to "Eren taught me that if you don't fight, you can't win." The whole story could have been relayed in 5 minutes as most of the elements within her backstory never come up again and only served the purpose of getting that one message across. And when it finally gets to the point that she has to fight "or else she can't win" they stretch it out into a scene that's too long and can't have any tension because we already know what is going to happen. Then, an episode or two later when everybody is getting ready to kill Eren because they know he can turn into a titan. The whole episode is then geared towards more exposition in which Armin comes to the exact same conclusion. They try to build tension by putting the three main characters in danger, but the tension is completely destroyed on the basis that we know they're not going to kill off the three main characters this early. And that they already pretended to kill off Eren three episodes prior.
>>811 And when they're not using exposition to tell us that if you can't fight you can't win. They're using it to spell out the plot twists that haven't yet happened, so by the time that they do they're unsurprising. All in all, I think attack on titan is a garbage anime because it moves so slowly that by the time anything happens, you're more excited that something has happened at all rather than being excited for whats going to happen next as you should be. In contrast, the manga is great because you can skim through all the exposition in 5 minutes as opposed to 18 without missing out on any plot. Great story, but terrible execution.
First anime you watched? >3000 Leagues in Search of Mother / Marco This made me cry every single time. The amount he suffers through his journey surpasses Frodo Baggins'.
http://comicbook.com/2015/04/28/dragon-ball-getting-first-new-tv-anime-series-in-18-years/ New Dragon Ball series written by Toriyama himself is being made. I guess Toriyama has ran out of funds for his cocaine habit.
>Would anyone reccommend a series similar or better like Gunslinger Girl? I had my music on shuffle and came across the GG soundtrack. Havent heard it in years and it brought me back to this amazing anime. Id love if there was more or similar anime that I can get into (Second season was shit so I had a bad taste of feeling incomplete) I know there are a lot of "cute girls with guns" anime but Im talking about dramatic gun action with girls. Great story. Amazing music OST Anything?
Well I don't know any since it's not my cup of tea in anime , but I can give you this website where you could put your anime's name and on its page you have a tab "recomendation" with a brief summary of why it is recomended. So you could try over here myanimelist .net Sorry to not help you more than that but since this board is not often visited I figured that i would be better than letting some one come up with a reply 3 month too late. Hope you will find what you seek buddy.
>>845 Try Gunsmith cats or Black Lagoon. Black Lagoon in particular is very intense. Also, if you're looking for anime that is just very violent try Gantz, Shiki, or Elfen Lied.
