What is/are the best Simulation-based game(s) you've ever played for PC? I've owned/played: The Oregon Trail SimEarth SimCity 2000 SimCity 3000 SimCity 4 Sim Ant Sim Tower Spore Roller Coaster Tycoon + expansions Catz (Made by P.F. Magic) And out of all of them I think SimCity 4 is my favorite one. Spore is good, sure, but once you enter space mode it just gets really repetitive and the expansion for Spore is a joke. I don't know if it counts as a sim-game but I've heard the Black and White series was really good.

>>4585 >Should probably read a guide for jumping into a game next time... There's like almost no documentation in-game from the start about how to do the mini-games. I'll look into it more later. Thanks for the suggestion though chum. I recommend checking out that ftp server I linked. There's a TON of DOS games on it you can download right off the bat. The owner also has Amiga stuff if you go up a couple of directories (with an emulator of course).
The world is slowly growing. Annoyingly there's no feature to snap a pic of the whole world map, just what's visible. So I had to piece it together individually which is why it looks so autistic.

Steam to remove Greenlight and replace with Steam Direct. To curb kusoge Steam will charge fee that could be up to $5,000 for games to be submitted https://steamcommunity.com/games/593110/announcements/detail/558846854614253751
Not a tech person. Just a stupid consumer. Wish the article highlighted like how this would affect the regular joe
>>4455 That's incredibly retarded, steam greenlight was great but it needs people from steam to check whatever game is approved to make sure it isn't some trash. Having a pay wall just screws over the really small game devs.
>>4811 the feel nowadays is $300 dollars

>>4817 Why are game journos so uneducated? The word theyre looking for is "self-entitled". Entitled gamers means they are actually deserving some entitlements
I've played Penumbra series and Amnesia. I think this game is not better than either of them, certainly not amnesia which I consider a masterpiece. The horror is ok, but it is not the focus of the game as much as those previous titles. The scenes you go through are amazing, it was a great setting for the game, and the ending is pretty good too as well as the topic of it (robots and conscience). It just falls short on everything in my opinion. The horror is beneath their previous games, the gameplay is more simplistic than both games, the setting is good but doesn't carry the game completely on its own. I feel this game really needed more story to shine (which even amnesia has more, with the notes you read). I give it a 7.5. I wish they would have focused less on the graphics and polish and more on some distinct gameplay for this. The trailers with robot interviews had me hyped, but the game did not have moments like those. Ending was memorable though
The ending was very kafkaesque
>>4680 aldo have played amnesia and penumbra, I thought this was better imo, also the message it delivers was very intelligent and fucked up
>>4681 I kind of disagree with the horror factor, I wasn't very scared in amnesia. I feel the horror factor was diluted, but there are initially some VERY scary parts when you don't know what you are doing. I also found that the gameplay in the previous 2 games were complex to the point of irritation, spending hours in 1 room checking every single object to see if it has a trigger effect so you can proceed, soma just took out those pointless areas
>>4734 >I wasn't very scared in amnesia I guess SOMA makes you more physically scared of injury, but the horror mood in amnesia was great. picture unrelated

>>4723 I saw a video about this, and while it's awesome the question is how Valve will react. I'm not sure how this guy will prevent getting sued to the next century.
>>4724 maybe he had some sort of informal permission for it. Plus if he is just doing a free mod he can do whatever he wants I guess
>>4726 Only time will tell, i hope you're right
Anyone remember playing this back in the day? Before my mom bought a new family computer (upgraded from Windows 95 to XP) I used to make it routine that whenever we went to a store with computers on display I'd pull this game up, play a quick game then type in "NIGGERS" for my high score. Never got caught because none of the sales clerks ever paid close enough attention to what I was typing and my folks were off browsing in an aisle around the corner. I always got near 1M but I've never broken it which is really lame, I know.
>>4665 I remember that one being one of the default XP games, in that time I was running OS/2 at home and that pinball game was the only reason I seriously considered to move to windows. I moved to Linux instead, but I always loved that game.
>>4668 The pinball game was the only reason? Shit, when my mom finally got XP it came with (took me awhile to finally find the name of it before posting this) WildTangent which was pre-installed and had a bunch of game demos on it and I loved playing Blackhawk Striker at the store and at home.
>>4669 By that time I was more interested in Maya than any game, I was a really boring kid lol
>>4665 Played a lot of that when my friend first got a Pentium 1

Hi. So I'm looking for some good freeware games to kill time with. I have a shitty computer (~1GB of RAM) so I can't play anything that requires a lot of RAM or processing power. I tried to re-play Soldat the other day but I kept getting a bullshit error about a lack of OpenGL support on my video card so I couldn't get back into it again. So I've tried out Under the Garden, beat Knytt and am dying like a motherfucker in Spelunky often. I've only made it to the first jungle level 3 times out of 65 tries or so. I beat Cave Story (again) recently and just need something new to try out. No fighting, racing, sporty or Room Escape-type games please. Please summarize what the game is about and if you know the genre please list that too. I would appreciate any suggestions.
>>4523 Ur-Quan Masters HD
>>4547 >>4548 Iji is great and got updated recently
>>4554 I played this for a few hours yesterday. It's kind of boring because you're doing the same things over and over--sometimes on a really hostile planets, sometimes not. Even though it's been updated it feels like a game from the 90's (which I don't mind) and the movement is a bit of a pain. I mean, you pretty much have to be precisely on top of a planet to visit it and depending on its size you can fly by it pretty easily even though you should have been close enough and therefore waste fuel if you accidentally end up back out into Hyperspace. It'd be nice if there were more tracks to listen because the space one gets old really quickly too. I'll keep playing but I'm not sure for how long. >>4555 Not big into fighting/shoot'em ups but I'll check it out nonetheless.
>>4523 not freeware, but maybe you'd like Dungeon Keeper 2. Should run on your computer. Also, magic carpet 1 and 2
>>4582 I managed to get a hold of DK2 but unfortunately the game kept hanging in the middle of the second story campaign so I'll have to figure out how to get around that if possible. Tried running in an older compatibility mode with the 480 x 640 resolution setting but it hung on the same spot. Everything ran very smoothly too.
This isn't for games per se but to branch off of my Sim-game thread >>4482, I've played around with a few simulators here and there over the years and I'm curious as to what (if anyone) you guys have had the most fun messing around in with. For me, while I do not have access to a computer that can handle the graphics anymore, I really enjoyed modding the shit out of Celestia--a super interactive 3D universe consisting of (mainly) our local galaxy. It's even been utilized by NASA for its accuracies. You can zoom in on planets, moons, asteroids, objects, etc., follow their orbits, simulate being on the object and simulate what it'd be like on it, or launch from it, go back in time, see constellations, etc. Travel faster than the speed of light to distant worlds, stars, and so on. https://celestiaproject.net/ One simulator I came across recently looked like it'd be real fun to fuck around with but you need a decent computer to handle the graphics plus the latest version isn't free unlike Celestia. It's called Universe Sandbox and it simulates physics in space. Want to ram two planets together? Let's do it. How about stars? Fuck them too! http://universesandbox.com/ So, what other simulators have you guys fooled around with and have enjoyed?
>>4512 KSP for me, also as most Unity games it works on linux.
>>4512 Warthog seems pretty fun. I've played it only a few hours, going through the in game tutorials. Learning how to fly those planes from the 70s is hard as fuck
Thanks OP This game can't fail or I'll an hero. M&B1 is the most addictive game ever made. I don't like this "you level skills by using them" thing tho
>>4478 I agree. Theyre making a mistake. TES has been an example of it being a mediocre system at best for a long time. The way it works in the M&B and Warband is good.
>>4479 Yup. I'm yet to see a system where it works well. For TES it is fine because it let´s you maximize everything. Given the nature of the game, a single player rpg, I like that. But warband is about conquering the map, so I expect a more challenging environment against my build. Being a master of everything doesn't seem to work for warband. Guess we'll see
Will he make a comeback?
Does anyone here play this pre-alpha (currently just a free-for-all deathmatch thing) Naruto-esque game and if you do then what do you think of it? What I really like about it is how frequently it's updated, how good the combat system seems to be (even if it's really bare bones at the moment) and how close the developers seem to want to be to their fan base. https://www.shinobilifeonline.com

Steam Winter Sale is in full effect This is a rare off chance and I might not get any replies but who knows. Maybe there is one of you who is resistant to purchase a video game because you don't have anybody to play with. If you would like: Just post a game below and I will check it out (or others will) Maybe we have similar interests and I may want to purchase the game with you and we can co-op a new game together. Would be fun. Just know I'm American with an American time-zone and possibly do not have mic chat capabilities
And just to add if the game can not be 100+ Thanks lol Amount isnt a deal breaker if you honestly will play with me but if you are just going to have me pay for a high dollar game, then play 30 minutes and rage quit, then No thanks pick something cheaper Also, Im a bit of a novice when it comes to PC gaming in general but I will practice to try and keep up with your level of play. So dont be shy if you suck at games. This is just for us to hang and shit and play a new game co-op and have fun
I bought Overlord 2. Never played it before. I played the original on Xbox manyyears ago. Its a fun game so far. I like the humor and soundtrack Im tempted to play Orcs Unchained so I can play with others online but the scores suck so bad I bought Dungeon Degenders last night also. I. hope people still play it online. Was only $3. Hoping I can find people to co-op with me
You guys can also check for people to play with at the official community http://steamcommunity.com/groups/masterchan
>>4430 >social media un-protected with information >from a pro-anonymous board Lol what a bunch of retard you guys are... And considering the number of members in this group, i'm pretty sure half of it isn't even on Mchan.
What a cuck
>>4786 >Hell, Warren Spector is not even necessarily a PC dev anyway. He was director for Epic Mickey, and that was Wii exclusive. You dont even know who Warren Spector is and yet you think you can judge what does and doesnt belong on /pc/
given that things are slow now nothing wrong with letting a thread sit on topic for a while
>>4801 This moment will be remembered as when everything went to shit.
>>4802 >going to shit we haven't even got started yet
You will never be tough enough for this game. 94% of newbs quit... why? Cos they vet fodder https://www.vendetta-online.com/ Prove the community wrong.
And yes I stole MasterChan
I dont like space games Pass for me
>>4376 I think I played that game a long time ago, or maybe I tried applying for a free key at the time
>>4376 Does this have a newtonian flight model
How do you organize your steam games?
Recommend challenging, no handholding /pc/-approved steam sale games.
>>4632 They probably do that to trick people into paying for really shitty games. Then when they realize they've just wasted their money and try to get their money back, "sorry, you can no longer receive a refund for your purchase(s) lul". Gotta make a quick buck somehow. And the masses are retardedly gullible, so yeah...
>>4633 increasing to 4 hours would be nice steam needs to allow porn games now
>>4636 Then they could be really lazy by naming that the "Steamy" section.
>>4637 >steamy yes pls
I own a CYBERPOWERPC gaming rig and I use STEAM gaming services/application I have this exact XBOX360 controller from years back when I played XBOX. But the damn thing doesn't respond when I plug it into my computer. I think it is too old I want to play PC games with a controller because I'm more used to that but it doesn't respond. I think I have to buy a new one Which controller can I purchase that works with PC Steam games and is good?
You need a driver and i recommend xpadder in addition, to use the controller in any way you desire (control mouse or windows shortcuts, mute, louder, etc.).
>>4423 Logitech F510 (Wireless) $50 or F310 (Wired) $20 are the best controllersi n my opinion Has both Dinput and Xinput which is good for older games and RPGmaker titles
>>4457 I believe you are taking about F710. That one is wireless. I own one and it's pretty great.
>>4423 >Which controller can I purchase that works with PC Steam games and is good? The 360 controllers really. They are cheap and they are very compatible with everything. Even on linux with a 360 controller I could play steam games without even installing anything
